How to Make Money from Anywhere & Live the Life of Your Dreams through Copywriting

Picture it. Your alarm rings at 7AM on Monday morning and your first thought is, “Ugh!”. You pull your blanket over your head with a sigh, dreading the day ahead of you.

It’s the start of another five day workweek that goes by too slowly. Day in and day out, you punch the clock, but still struggle to get ahead, watching your paycheck vanish to bills and debt.

There has to be more to life right?

As you daydream of tropical beach vacations or snow capped rocky mountains, you find yourself searching for outside the box career ideas. “How can I make money from anywhere??” You wonder.

The ability to make money from anywhere in the world is the ultimate dream. The “laptop lifestyle” is sought after yet elusive. Many people desire freedom and flexibility within their work lives but don’t know how to make it happen.

The first step in carving out the life of your dreams? Believing you can do it.

From there, it’s just figuring out what path you want to pursue. One great way to be able to work from anywhere is through getting paid for a skill or service, and one lucrative and highly needed service?

Copywriting.

Copywriting has been my answer to being able to ditch the draining nine-to-five, create my own schedule, spend more time with my family, and make good money doing it!

I want to share with you some of the basics so that you can start to imagine all that’s possible and start carving out the life of your dreams.

What is Copywriting?

First things first, copywriting is different from copyrighting. We’re not dealing with any laws here.

You can think of copywriting under the umbrella of marketing. Copy is everywhere- on websites, billboards, in your inbox and more. You see copy everyday, you just might not have realized it.

The intent of copy is to drive a reader to take action. For example, if you think of a really good email from your favorite clothing company that leads you to checking out their newest sale items or read a really good blog post that makes you sign up for someone’s newsletter, the words that persuaded you to do those things were all written by a copywriter!

Many copywriters work as freelancers or independent contractors. This means that they get to decide who to work with and how much work to take on. Some copywriters choose to be on staff at one company, which gives them a more structured and predictable workload.

A copywriting career can be rewarding, lucrative, and freeing. Most copywriters enjoy the luxury of being able to work remotely and have autonomy and flexibility within their schedule.

So, obviously copywriting involves getting paid to write, but what else does a copywriter do?

What does a copywriter do?

Now that you know what copy is, you can begin to consider all the many places businesses need it. Every business needs different types of copy to help their business grow.

One cool thing about being a copywriter is that you can decide what kind of copy you want to write. Some copywriters specialize in strictly writing words for websites. Others may focus on blogs or email newsletters. Many copywriters dabble in a variety of areas.

On a day to day basis, a copywriter may work on a blog for one client, an email sequence for another, and brochure for a third. The ultimate job of a copywriter is to bring their clients results. This means writing words that push the reader to take a desired action on a medium of the client’s choosing.

Copywriting also involves quite a few other duties that don’t directly result in getting paid, but are important nonetheless, like looking for clients, updating your own website and socials, and keeping up with finances- just to name a few.

How much money does a copywriter make?

Whether you are looking to work remotely full-time or just want to make a little extra cash on the side, copywriting is a great option.

One of the best things about copywriting is that you get to set your own rates and decide how much you want to work. Experience is also a big factor in how much you can charge, which means that income from one copywriter to another can vary a lot, like tens of thousands of dollars a lot!

If you’re wanting to pursue copywriting full time, you’ll obviously want to put more hours into starting your own copywriting business. If you’re just wanting to freelance a little on the side, you may decide to work just a few hours on the weekends.

However, I think once you get a taste of the freedom that copywriting allows, you’ll want to go all in with this career.

When you’re just starting out, you won’t be able to charge as much, but taking the work that you can get is a valuable way to get experience and build your portfolio. Once you have a strong portfolio and are a little more comfortable with your writing skills, you can begin to charge more for your work and be a little choosier about which projects you take on.

Some copywriters charge per project, while some charge per word, but get this, you can make $100-$200 or more from writing one blog post or a couple hundred to a thousand crafting website copy.

Not bad, especially when you remember that this comes with the ability to make your own schedule and work from anywhere in the world!

Can anyone be a copywriter?

Another great thing about pursuing a career in copywriting is that you don’t need a college degree or even to be a highly qualified writer. Most copy is actually kept pretty simple and written at around a 7th grade reading level.

So sure, anyone can be a copywriter. You can start any age and with no prior experience. But of course, it helps to enjoy writing, and you need to be willing to learn and practice your writing skills. Having a good eye for detail and meticulously editing your work is important as well.

It can be extremely helpful if you have experience in another industry, because that knowledge base can become your niche as a copywriter. You’ll also want to familiarize yourself with the basics of marketing psychology and be willing to research for your client as needed.

A willingness to put in a lot of work at the beginning and constantly practice your craft can set you up for a really successful and lasting career in copywriting.

What’s the first step?

Often, the first step is just deciding that you are ready to take the leap and pursue a new career path. Copywriting requires hard work and dedication, but can be such a rewarding career that lets you make money from anywhere.

There is definitely a lot to learn in the beginning, so it can be helpful to take a copywriting course that helps you speed up the learning curve so that you can begin your career with the knowledge and tools you need.

The ability to make money from anywhere opens up your life in so many ways. If you’ve been feeling stuck in a job you hate, want to travel more or get more time with your kids, a career in copywriting might just be your answer.
